The Social Media Bookshelf

Technology is changing faster than the average person can keep up.  Social Media is migrating and evolving before our very eyes.  Here's a short list of books on Social Media that are widely regarded as essential to using the tools of the trade:

The Social Media Bible: Tactics, Tools, and Strategies for Business Success, by Lon Safko and David Brake<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=aglobri-20&l=as2&o=1&a=0470411554" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />

Groundswell: Winning in a World Transformed by Social Technologies by Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=aglobri-20&l=as2&o=1&a=1422125009" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />

Social Media Marketing: An Hour a Day by Dale Evans<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=aglobri-20&l=as2&o=1&a=0470344024" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />

Two that I haven't read represent the beginning stages of Social Media and the current state of affairs.  These are:  The Cluetrain Manifesto by Christopher Locke, Rick Levine, Doc Searls, and David Weinbergerand Trust Agents by Chris Brogan and Julian Smith.  Since I haven't read them, I can't recommend them, but Trust Agents is currently selling like hotcakes on Amazon and the Cluetrain Manifesto is widely regarded as the first "official" book on the Social Media phenomenon.  The Cluetrain Manifesto was originally published in January, 2001, and a 10 year anniversary edition was release early this summer - an important detail if you plan on buying the book.  I plan on reading the 10th anniversary edition this fall.

Any other recommendations of must-reads for the Social Media bookshelf?  Let us know in the comments section here!

Thank you! I'm always looking for books that will help me keep up with the rapidly changing social media revolution. I will definitely check these out.

I'm finding, though, that blogs such as yours are even more valuable than books. The world is changing so fast that by the time a book goes through the writing, editing, production and distribution process it may already be out of date. A blog, though, is published in real time, and comments add to the collective knowledge on any particular topic.

I've set your blog as a favorite in Google Reader (which is fed by RSS). Keep the valuable information flowing, Susan.

The other suggestion although not strictly social media is Connection Generation by Iggy Pintado (me). It's on Amazon at www.connectiongenerationbook.com
